Like uncountable others, I’m a World of Warcraft player. I do light raiding now, two nights a week, with a fairly casual Horde-side guild on the Uther server.
WoW is far from my first MMO, but it’s the first one I picked up with a specifically long-term intent. All through the years, I’d join public MMO beta’s and then sometimes play in the first formative months and then move on. I got tired of it. This time, even if I have long periods of semi-inactivity, I want to experience the life-span of a major MMO. I didn’t realize when I picked it up just how major it was going to be, of course, but I’ve no complaints. I enjoy being part of a transformative mainstream movement.
I have lots of thoughts on WoW and the way people talk about it, especially people in the MMO business. I expect I will post occasional rants about this as the weeks go by. Meanwhile, if you stop by on Uther, please say hello to a blue Troll named Gortuka!
